Hand-Knapped Flint Arrowheads, Stone Age Replica, Set of 5

The Work of a Prehistoric Craftsman

These points are not molded or machine-cut. They are authentically hand-knapped from real flint. This ancient technique creates the characteristic conchoidal fractures and incredibly sharp edges.

Natural Material

Flint is a type of microcrystalline quartz with a Mohs hardness of 7, which made it the ideal material for tools and weapons throughout the Stone Age. As this is a natural stone, every arrowhead in the set is absolutely unique in its colour, pattern, and exact shape. The photos are for illustration purposes – your set will have its own unrepeatable character.

How to Use the Arrowheads

This set of flint points is primarily intended as a component for your own projects:

  • Crafting Historical Arrows and Javelins: The heads are ready for hafting onto wooden shafts. Using traditional methods with animal sinew and natural adhesives like birch tar, you can create fully functional replicas of prehistoric weapons.
  • Historical Reenactment and LARP: An indispensable accessory for a character from the Stone Age, Bronze Age, or for 'primitive' fantasy cultures such as barbarians, wood elves, or orcs.
  • An Educational Tool: An excellent, tangible teaching aid for schools, museums, scout groups, or hobby clubs to demonstrate prehistoric technologies.
  • Decoration and Collecting: These are beautiful natural objects with a fascinating story, ideal for display.

A Glimpse into History: Flint, the Steel of the Stone Age

For prehistoric humans, flint was one of the most important materials of all. Its key property is that it breaks with a conchoidal fracture, creating an extremely sharp edge – sharper on a molecular level than a steel scalpel, although considerably more brittle. For hundreds of thousands of years, almost everything was made from it: knives, scrapers, hand-axes, and of course, points for arrows and spears. Mastering the art of flintknapping was a crucial survival skill that defined the technological progress of prehistoric cultures worldwide.

Interesting Fact: The Secret of the Notches

Why do the arrowheads have characteristic notches at their base? It's not just for aesthetics. These side notches and the central stem were absolutely critical for effectively hafting the point to a shaft. They created anchor points for a tight wrapping of animal sinew or cordage. The sinew, which shrinks and hardens as it dries, combined with a natural adhesive (like birch tar mixed with ash) to create a bond so strong it could withstand the impact of a hunt or a battle.

Safety and Handling

Although these are replicas, they are made using traditional techniques, and their edges can be EXTREMELY SHARP.

  • Handle the points with great care at all times to avoid deep cuts.
  • When hafting them and when handling the finished arrows, always exercise maximum caution and follow archery safety rules.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Caring for Your Flint Arrowheads

As a stone, flint requires almost no maintenance. It doesn't rust or rot. The only important thing is physical care. Flint is hard, but it is also brittle. Protect the points from falling on hard surfaces like concrete or rock, where they could chip or break.
