Decorative Knightly Shield "El Cid Campeador" from Toledo

A Jewel for Your Wall

This shield is designed primarily as a luxury wall decoration. Thanks to its convex shape (heater shield type), it looks very three-dimensional and vivid on the wall. The back is equipped with a sturdy metal chain, allowing for easy and safe hanging. The golden brass fittings in the corners and decorative rivets along the edge create a beautiful contrast to the cool steel. The shield will look splendid above a fireplace, in a study, in a hallway, or as the focal point of your collection of historical arms. It matches perfectly with replicas of Spanish swords, such as Tizona or Colada.

El Cid: Hero of Two Worlds

Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (c. 1043–1099), nicknamed El Cid (from the Arabic "Sidi" – Lord) or Campeador (Champion), is the Spanish national hero. He became famous as an invincible military leader during the Reconquista, when Christian kingdoms fought to reclaim the Iberian Peninsula from the Moors. His story, immortalized in the epic "The Poem of the Cid," tells of honour, loyalty, and incredible courage. Owning this shield means remembering a legend that united a divided land.

How to Care for the Shield

To ensure the shield retains its dazzling lustre, it requires gentle care. Remove dust with a soft feather duster or a dry microfibre cloth. Do not use water or aggressive cleaning agents on the polished steel and brass parts, as they could cause stains or oxidation. If fingerprints appear on the surface, gently polish them off with a dry soft cloth. Place the shield in a dry environment where it will not be exposed to direct humidity.

Important Safety Warning

Please bear in mind that this is strictly a decorative item. The shield is not intended for fencing, re-enactment, or LARP. It has no hand grips, and its construction is not built to withstand blows from weapons. The approx. 1 mm thick metal sheet would be irreparably damaged by contact use. Be careful when handling; the edges may be sharp. Hang it securely and out of the reach of children.

I recommend you check out our range of El Cid sword replicas to create a perfect historical composition with this shield.
