There were two main types. The first, called a ligula, had a larger, oval bowl. The second type, known as a cochleare, had a smaller round bowl and a pointed handle.

- Do Not Soak: Do not leave the spoons sitting in water for long periods, as they could crack or change shape.
- Avoid Heat: NEVER put the spoons in a dishwasher! The high temperature and aggressive detergents would irreparably destroy them. Likewise, do not use them to stir boiling food in a pot.
