Both the handle (tsuka) and the scabbard (saya) are covered in a glossy, rich red lacquer. The handle also features a texture imitating dragon skin, enhancing the overall impression. This fiery base contrasts perfectly with the silver-finished metal fittings with a black patina, making them stand out even more. The scabbard is also adorned with silver motifs and a red cord wrap (sageo).
The Dragon as Guardian
The heart and soul of this sword is the three-dimensional guard (tsuba) in the shape of a dragon that wraps around the blade, its body forming a unique handguard.
