Historical Context and Design
This sword's design corresponds to weapons used in the 9th and 10th centuries, the height of the Viking Age. The five-lobed pommel is classified as Type H according to Petersen's typology of Viking swords and was one of the most common types found throughout Scandinavia. For a Viking, a sword was not just a weapon but also a symbol of status, honour, and family legacy. This replica captures the spirit of the age with a focus on typical proportions and materials.
Construction and Workmanship
The sword's blade is hand-forged from high-carbon steel and has a polished finish. It is not sharp; the edge has a thickness of approximately 1.7 mm. The hilt consists of a guard and pommel cast from solid brass. The wooden core of the grip is tightly wrapped in black cowhide. As is evident from the photos, the tang of the blade is not peened through the pommel, confirming the decorative nature of the sword.
A carefully crafted scabbard is also included. It features an authentic construction with a wooden core to protect the blade. The exterior is covered in the same black leather as the grip and is adorned with a prominent brass chape and locket. This is a very well-made and affordable set, ideal for collectors, theatrical performances, or as a costume accessory.

- The brass parts may develop a patina over time. If you prefer a shiny look, you can gently polish them with a brass cleaner.
- Never strike hard objects with the sword, engage in contact sparring, or expose it to extreme moisture.
