For millennia, scale and lamellar armour were among the most widespread types of protection. From ancient civilizations like the Assyrians, Persians, Scythians, Sarmatians, or Romans, through early medieval warriors of Charlemagne, to the late Middle Ages and even the Renaissance, for example, with the legendary Polish Winged Hussars. This form of protection was valued for its ability to distribute the energy of a blow effectively and the relative mobility it offered. Individual scales overlapped and were attached to a backing (leather, fabric) or laced together, forming a resilient cuirass.

Did you know that scale armour was one of the most enduring forms of personal protection in history? Its principle proved effective across cultures and millennia. While other types of armour came and went with changing warfare tactics, scales and lamellae maintained their popularity well into the early modern period. Care Instructions and Important Notice

These iron scales are supplied only lightly oiled and without further surface treatment. This is not stainless steel, so surface rust may appear – this is normal for this type of product. However, any rust can be easily removed using a metal cleaning eraser or fine abrasive wool. The surface is not polished, and any minor scratches are a natural characteristic of this semi-finished product and not a cause for complaint. For long-term storage or after assembling your armour, we recommend cleaning the scales and thoroughly preserving them with a suitable oil.
