Ceremonial Templar Sword “Damascene” by Marto Toledo

The Art of "Damasquinado" and the Hilt

What sets this sword apart from all others is the specific decoration style called Damasquinado (Damascene work). It is a traditional Toledo technique of inlaying gold wires or plates into a dark background (here simulated on metal). On this sword, you will find these beautiful black-and-gold ornaments on the guard ring, the pommel, and the central cross.

The hilt is cast from high-quality Zamak alloy and features an elegant silver finish. The grip is wrapped in deep maroon velvet, which is pleasant to the touch and gives the weapon a regal appearance. The velvet is further reinforced with gold-plated fittings.

Symbolism of the Knights Templar

The sword is literally covered with Templar references:

  • Crossguard: The center is dominated by a circular medallion with the inscription SIGILLUM MILITUM XPISTI (Seal of the Soldiers of Christ) and the Templar Cross.
  • Pommel: The massive pommel is adorned with the Order's most famous symbol – two knights on one horse. This image originally symbolized poverty and brotherhood, as knights could not afford their own horses, even though the Order later became immensely wealthy.
  • Blade: The stainless steel blade is polished to a mirror finish and features decorative cutouts (perforations) in its fuller, a typical feature of ceremonial Toledo weapons to reduce visual weight and add elegance.

Usage and Safety Warning

Please bear in mind that this sword is designed exclusively as a prestigious decoration. Although it is made of high-quality materials, its construction is not adapted for dynamic stress or impact.

  • Not suitable for fencing: You must not strike objects with this sword or fence against another weapon. Stainless steel is hard but brittle and could snap upon impact.
  • Display: Thanks to its weight and length, it will look magnificent on a wall in your living room, study, or above a fireplace.

Maintenance

To ensure the sword brings you joy for many years, avoid touching the blade with bare hands (sweat causes stains). Occasionally dust the sword with a soft duster and polish the metal parts with a dry cloth. Protect the velvet handle from humidity and direct sunlight to prevent fading.
