Black Leather Sword Baldric with Massive Steel Buckle
Historical Context and Wearing Advantages
The baldric, historically originating from the ancient balteus, saw its greatest boom in the 16th and 17th centuries. This wide carrying strap transferred the weight of a heavy weapon from the waist to the shoulder and back, which was much more comfortable for the warrior during long marches and in combat itself. It also prevented the unwanted pulling down of trousers or the waist belt. In addition to smallswords, rapiers, and sabres, similar slings were commonly used in armies to carry military drums. Today, this accessory is an absolute must-have for anyone who wants to credibly portray a character from the period of the Thirty Years' War or the Golden Age of Piracy.
Customisation to Your Needs
The baldric is designed to give you maximum flexibility. The standard inside width of the bottom loop (frog) for suspending the weapon is approximately 10 cm (approx. 3.94 inches), which comfortably accommodates most common scabbards. However, if your weapon requires a narrower or wider loop, simply state this requirement in the order notes, and the loop will be custom-made exactly for you. Moreover, the product is available in versions for both right-handers (worn over the right shoulder, weapon hangs at the left hip) and left-handers.

Leather Care and Safety Rules
To maintain the suppleness and longevity of the leather, the baldric must be treated from time to time with a high-quality leather balm, ideally containing beeswax. If you get soaked at an event, let the leather dry naturally and slowly at normal room temperature. Strictly avoid drying it on a radiator, near an open flame, or in harsh summer sunlight; the leather would irreversibly harden and crack. We recommend occasionally wiping the steel buckle gently with a cloth containing a drop of oil to prevent surface corrosion.
For safety reasons, remember that the weapon in the baldric must always be carried in a solid scabbard. Carrying a bare blade directly in the leather loop is highly dangerous – you risk not only destroying the baldric itself but, above all, causing yourself a serious injury.
Recommended Accessories
To accompany this baldric, we highly recommend acquiring a matching leather scabbard for your smallsword or rapier and a period linen shirt with wide sleeves, with which you will create an absolutely perfect historical ensemble.
