Leather Baldric With Suspension For Rapier Or Sword
Historical Context And Safety Rules
Baldrics (wide load-bearing shoulder belts) saw a massive boom at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. They allowed the weight of heavy equipment to be distributed across the entire body, which is why they were used to carry not only long bladed weapons but often military drums or powder flasks (so-called apostles) as well. This model with a widened suspension section is primarily designed for carrying rapiers and swords. Important safety warning: The weapon should always be carried in a scabbard when in the baldric! Carrying a bare, sharp blade directly in the leather straps is highly dangerous for you and those around you, and the sharp edges would quickly destroy the baldric's fastening straps.

Custom Made And Optional Scabbard
To ensure the baldric and weapon attachment fit you absolutely perfectly, we make it to order. Please indicate the diagonal circumference of your torso in the order notes (measured across the shoulder to the opposite hip, exactly where the strap will run), as well as the circumference of your weapon's scabbard near the hilt, so the saddler knows how long to make the fastening straps. If you also need a custom-made leather scabbard to go with the baldric, we offer its production. In that case, add to the notes: the width and thickness of the blade near the hilt, the width and thickness of the blade 10 cm (4 inches) from the tip, and the total required depth of the scabbard (blade length).

Leather Equipment Care
This is a natural material, and minor surface imperfections and variations in texture are signs of hand-crafting and authenticity. To prevent the leather from cracking and to maintain its strength, treat the baldric regularly with a high-quality leather balm or cobbler's oil. This will prevent the material from drying out. Please note that the shape and surface finish of the metal components (buckles) may differ slightly from the photos depending on our saddler's current stock.
Recommended Accessories
To accompany this baldric, we highly recommend purchasing a high-quality historical replica of a Renaissance rapier or sword and stylish leather fencing gloves, taking your musketeer or noble costume to absolute perfection.
