Leather Sword Baldric - Adjustable Shoulder Hanger

The design of this baldric emphasizes functionality and versatility. The wide shoulder strap distributes the sword's weight for maximum comfort, even during all-day wear. The sword hanger itself (the frog) is attached to the strap with a strong metal O-ring, and its three adjustable buckled straps allow for the secure attachment of almost any scabbard. Simply slide your scabbard into the frog, tighten the straps, and you are ready to set off on your next adventure.

The Baldric in History

Shoulder hangers, known as baldrics, became especially popular in the 17th century, though their roots extend much deeper into history. They were a practical way to carry a sword—especially heavier blades like rapiers, broadswords, or cutlasses—without encumbering a waist belt that might already be laden with a dagger, pistol, and pouches. A baldric distributed the weapon's weight across the shoulder and torso, which was more comfortable, and the diagonal carry was also considered very elegant and fashionable.

An Interesting Piece of History

A baldric was not just a functional piece of equipment, but also a major status symbol, a fact perfectly illustrated by the novel "The Three Musketeers." In Alexandre Dumas's book, the quality and ornamentation of a musketeer's baldric was a direct reflection of his wealth and standing. The young D'Artagnan is often embarrassed by his plain and worn baldric compared to the magnificent, ornate ones of his friends Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. This shows that an investment in a quality baldric was an investment in one's own prestige.

Care and Maintenance

This baldric is built to last, but proper care will extend its life and keep the leather in perfect condition.

  • Protect the product from prolonged exposure to water. If the leather gets wet, allow it to air dry naturally at room temperature, not near a heat source.
  • To maintain suppleness and prevent cracking, occasionally treat the leather with a conditioner, balm, or wax.
  • Regularly check the condition of the buckles and rivets, especially if you use the baldric in active combat.
  • Do not store the baldric in a damp, unventilated area to prevent mould and mildew.
