Viking Boots "Jorvik" – Leather Boots with Toggle Fastening

Ingeniously Simple Fastening

What makes these boots unique is their fastening system. Instead of classic lacing, which can come undone in battle or snap in freezing weather, these boots use a system of leather loops and toggles made of bone, wood, or horn. This method is historically documented and extremely functional – you can fasten the boots even with one hand or while wearing gloves, and they stay securely on your foot. The leather adapts to the shape of your foot with wear, so the boots will soon feel as comfortable as a second skin.

Material and Construction

The boots are made of high-quality natural cowhide, which is thick enough to protect the foot but also supple for comfortable walking. The sole is made of hardened leather. It is attached to the upper using a traditional method that combines stitching and securing with steel nails around the perimeter of the sole. This solution ensures the long durability of the joint and a historically accurate appearance.

Important Note: Leather Sole

These boots feature an authentic smooth leather sole. The nails visible on the bottom serve for the structural connection of the sole to the upper, not as anti-slip studs. The boots perform excellently on grass and dirt, but on modern smooth surfaces (tiles, asphalt, parquet, concrete), they can be slippery. If you plan to wear the boots often in the city or on hard surfaces, we recommend having a cobbler add a thin rubber sole. This will increase your safety and significantly extend the life of the boots.

Care for Your Boots

  • After every event, clean mud from the boots with a damp cloth and let them dry slowly at room temperature. Never dry them near a radiator or fire!
  • Regularly use leather grease or beeswax to keep the leather soft and water-resistant.
  • Occasionally check the fastening toggles to ensure they are secure.
