Viking Leather Ankle Boots Oarsman with Toggle Fastening
Clever Norse Design and Custom Fit
The basic cut of this footwear is based on the traditional wrap-around shoes widely used by the Norsemen. To increase comfort and better protect the foot, this model is equipped with an interwoven shaft panel. The boot is closed using a historically accurate system of leather loops and solid toggles. This system has one massive advantage: you can adjust the boot perfectly to yourself. If the shaft or instep seems too tight or, conversely, too loose when trying them on, simply loosen the knots on the leather straps leading to the toggles (you can use a nail or fork to help) and adjust their length accordingly. By lengthening them, you gain more space; by shortening them, you tighten the boot more firmly.

Proper Care for a Long Lifespan
Leather is a natural material that needs to be cared for regularly. Straight from production, the footwear is treated with a beeswax leather balm. Regularly rub leather oil or a high-quality wax balm into the leather to prevent it from drying out, hardening, and cracking. Applying the balm softens the leather, helps waterproof it, and gives it a beautiful, slightly darker patina. Always allow wet footwear to dry very slowly at room temperature. Never dry the boots near the radiant heat of an open fire, on a hot radiator, or in direct sunlight. Scuffs from battle can be easily masked with standard tinted shoe polish.
Safe Wear and Custom Sizing
The basic colours for this footwear are black, dark brown, and light brown (natural). Please be aware that if you select a different, unconventional shade in the configurator, it is created using a special covering lacquer paint. This layer may crack over time in the stressed bending areas of the boot. For occasional festival use, this is perfectly adequate, but for rough battles and frequent wear, we strongly recommend choosing naturally dyed leathers.
Thanks to the applied rubber sole, you will gain much better stability on wet grass and modern paving than with period leather soles. Nevertheless, exercise increased caution during contact fencing.
If you wear orthotic insoles and choose our custom-made sizing option, it is absolutely essential that you physically post these insoles to us. We will carefully seat them directly into your new boots so that they fit you with absolute precision.
We highly recommend you purchase period woollen socks and calf wraps (winingas) from our range to accompany these Viking boots, which will keep your feet warm and secure your step.
