Blackened Fantasy Viking LARP Spectacle Raven Helmet With Chainmail Aventail
Historical Context and Modern Usage
Although the design of this helmet is heavily oriented towards the world of fantasy and LARP (Live Action Role Play), its roots reach deep into the Early Middle Ages. Its shape is based on the so-called spectacle helmets, which were popular during the Vendel period and the era of the Nordic Vikings. However, the traditional shapes have been modified here for a more aggressive, darker look, making the helmet an ideal accessory for dark knights, orcs, or fantasy warriors. Because the helmet is made of mild steel sheet with a thickness of approximately 1 mm (approx. 18 gauge / 0.04 inches), please note that this is not protective armour suitable for full-contact combat such as buhurt, Battle of the Nations, or HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts). It is primarily intended as a costume accessory for LARP, cosplay, and theatrical productions where there is no risk of heavy blows with real steel weapons.
Care and Maintenance Advice
To ensure your helmet remains in perfect condition and does not rust, it is essential to treat the steel parts (including the chainmail aventail) with a suitable protective oil. After each use, especially if you have sweated or the helmet has gotten wet, dry it thoroughly and re-oil it. Keep the leather inlay and straps in good condition by using a high-quality leather balm. For your maximum comfort and additional shock absorption, we strongly recommend wearing a padded arming cap (coif) underneath the helmet.
Recommended Accessories
To create the perfect armour set, we recommend purchasing a thickly padded arming cap, which will ensure that the helmet sits perfectly on your head without causing any pressure points. Your dark aesthetic will be excellently complemented by a black padded gambeson and a set of blackened steel bracers.
