Gothic Women's Leather Shoes with Pointed Toe and Brass Buckle
Historical Context and Unique Design
Long and pointed shoes, often referred to as poulaines or crakows, were a massive fashion hit and a status symbol in the High and Late Gothic periods. The longer the point, the more significant the wearer. In these women's shoes, the pointed toe is intentionally designed to a practical length, maintaining the historical silhouette without restricting your normal walking. Another unique element is the significantly extended heel counter, which flows smoothly up above the ankle. This detail not only looks beautiful but also provides protection for the Achilles tendon and helps secure the shoe better to the foot in combination with the strap and brass buckle.
Material, Colours, and Custom Sizing
The upper of the shoes is carefully crafted from high-quality cowhide. By default, these Gothic shoes are supplied in black, dark brown, and light brown (natural) colours. If you desire a different colour shade, it is achieved by applying a special topcoat dye. Keep in mind, however, that this dye shares the natural properties of patent leathers – over time and due to stress, small cracks may appear, or the coating may crumble locally in the flex zones of the instep. For occasional wear at festivities and festivals, however, it will serve you excellently.
If you wear orthotic insoles and opt for the custom-made variant, it is essential to send these insoles to us in advance. They will be precisely integrated directly into the shoe, ensuring the finished footwear fits you absolutely perfectly and provides your arches with the necessary support.
Leather Care and Walking Safety
From the factory, the footwear is treated with a high-quality beeswax balm that softens, impregnates, and gives the leather a slightly darker patina. To ensure the shoes maintain a long lifespan and flexibility, it is necessary to nourish them regularly. Waxes, leather oils, or standard shoe polish work excellently for this purpose, and they also allow you to easily cover any scuffs acquired during wear. Never dry the footwear near a direct heat source, such as an open fire or a hot radiator, as the leather would irreversibly harden and crack.
Also, keep in mind that historical footwear with a smooth leather sole requires extra caution when walking on wet grass, mud, and especially on modern smooth surfaces (tiles, tarmac), where there is a real risk of slipping.
