Renaissance Belt Chape, decorated with Fleur-de-Lis, for 20 mm Belts

The Crowning Jewel of Your Belt

During the Renaissance, a belt was not merely a functional accessory but a significant indicator of social status. Richly decorated buckles and chapes made of precious metals were a sign of wealth and power. This brass chape, though affordable, perfectly evokes the spirit of this era. Its elaborate design and golden lustre will draw attention and become the focal point of your attire, whether you pair it with a simple tunic, a quilted doublet, or a piece of armour.

How to Attach the Chape to a Belt

Installation is easy and can be done yourself with a little care. You will need a hammer, a drill or a hole punch, and two rivets with washers.

  1. Trim the end of your leather belt (up to 20 mm wide) so that it fits precisely into the forked slot of the chape.
  2. Place the chape onto the end of the belt and press it on firmly.
  3. Through the two holes in the chape, mark the points for the rivets on the leather.
  4. Remove the chape and punch or drill holes in the leather at the marked spots.
  5. Place the chape back on, insert the rivets, and carefully peen them over washers on the back of the belt using a hammer and a hard surface.

A Note on Fasteners

Rivets and washers are not included. We recommend using brass rivets of a matching diameter (3 mm) to ensure the final appearance is as uniform and beautiful as possible. You can find suitable fasteners in our shop.

Caring for Your Brass Accessory
