Belt fittings of this style exhibit characteristics of the Norse Urnes art style as well as emerging Romanesque influences. Prominent openwork belt plates featuring zoomorphic scenes were highly prized among the warrior elites of Scandinavia, the British Isles, and Kievan Rus.

The wolf occupied a sacred place in Norse and Slavic mythology, symbolizing untamed strength, battle cunning, tribal loyalty, and the martial spirit dedicated to the gods (such as Odin's wolves, Geri and Freki). Ornate belt sets featuring a hinged plate buckle and matching strap end served not only to cinch clothing or suspend a sword and pouch, but functioned primarily as a visible display of wealth, noble status, and martial prowess.

Mounting and Assembly Instructions

Attaching this belt set to a leather strap is straightforward and easy to accomplish in your workshop:

• Prepare the Leather: Select a quality leather strap approximately 23 to 27 mm (approx. 0.90 to 1.06 in) wide. Punch a longitudinal slot near the end of the strap for the buckle pin.
• Mount the Buckle: Insert the leather strap into the recessed back of the buckle plate so the pin passes through the punched slot. Integrated brass rivet posts are located on the reverse side of the mount. Press the plate onto the leather, mark the post locations, punch holes, and carefully peen the posts over washers on the backside.
• Mount the Strap End: Insert the opposite end of the leather strap into the chape recess, mark the positions for the three integrated rivet posts, punch matching holes, and peen the rivets securely on the backside.
• Fastening: Thread the strap end through the buckle frame, insert the pin through the desired belt hole, and let the strap end hang naturally.

• Wipe dry with a soft cotton cloth after exposure to rain, moisture, or sweat.
• Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishing pastes, which could strip away the dark antiqued patina highlighting the wolf motif.
• Exercise caution when peening the rear rivet posts to prevent marring the front face or causing personal injury.
• The pin point is functional – handle with care during assembly and wear.
• Keep out of reach of small children due to sharp rivet posts and small parts.
