Robust Construction and Smart Design
The quality of this frog is evident at first glance. It is crafted from a single piece of 3.5mm thick full-grain leather, renowned for its strength and the beautiful patina it develops over time. The frog consists of two main belt loops, which are attached to metal "O" rings. These ensure that the sword hangs comfortably and follows your movement naturally as you walk, without getting in the way.
The scabbard holder itself is equipped with criss-cross leather lacing. This allows you to flexibly tighten or loosen the grip to precisely fit the dimensions of your scabbard. For added security, a small strap with a metal buckle is located at the top of the holder, which wraps firmly around the scabbard to prevent it from accidentally slipping out.
Versatile Use
Thanks to its adjustability and robust design, this frog is incredibly versatile. It is ideal for a wide range of weapons, from Viking and Norman swords, classic medieval arming swords or longswords (bastard swords), to slimmer rapiers, falchions, or cutlasses. Historical Inspiration and Use
Sword hangers, known as "frogs", became a popular method for carrying a sword at the waist. While in earlier periods (e.g., the Vikings) swords were also carried on shoulder baldrics, hip-carry became the standard for knights, soldiers, and adventurers as it allowed for immediate and quick access to the weapon. This design with "O" rings, while very popular in modern re-enactment and fantasy, provides excellent flexibility and comfort that warriors of any era would surely have appreciated.
Care Instructions
As this frog is made from genuine full-grain leather, it deserves proper care. Do not expose it to prolonged moisture unnecessarily. If it gets wet, allow it to air dry naturally at room temperature (never near a direct heat source like a radiator or fire!). To maintain the leather's suppleness and resilience, we recommend occasional treatment with a suitable leather conditioner, wax, or grease. Store it in a dry, ventilated area.
