A Tactical Weapon of Medieval Battlefields

This winged spearhead is the embodiment of functionality and historical accuracy. The leaf-shaped blade with a central ridge is designed for maximum thrusting efficiency, while two massive wings at the base of the blade fulfill a key tactical role. Historically, these wings, also known as "lugs," prevented the spear from penetrating the opponent's body too deeply, allowing for quick withdrawal and reuse. At the same time, they provided excellent protection and control in close combat, where they could be used to hook an opponent's shield or deflect their weapon.

Installation and Use

The spearhead features a hollow socket with an internal diameter of approximately 2.5 cm (1") for mounting on a wooden shaft (not included). At the bottom of the socket, there are two opposing holes that allow for a firm and secure attachment to the shaft using rivets, nails, or screws. For maximum authenticity and strength, we recommend using historically accurate rivets.

Historical Window: Weapon of Franks and Vikings

The winged spear, sometimes called the Frankish spear, was especially popular in the early Middle Ages, particularly from the 8th to the 11th century. It was an indispensable part of the armament of Carolingian warriors and later became a favored weapon of the Vikings, who valued its versatility. It was not only an effective infantry weapon against cavalry but also a symbol of status and power. Interestingly, finds of these spears in wealthy graves suggest they belonged to elite warriors and chieftains.

Please note: This is a replica of a historical weapon with blunt edges, primarily intended for collection purposes, as a costume accessory, or for practicing non-contact combat techniques. Class C according to the classification of fencing weapons, product without warranty!

Product Care

To ensure this spearhead serves you as long as possible and maintains its appearance, it must be properly cared for. After each use, wipe it with a dry, soft cloth. Regularly treat the metal parts with a thin layer of protective oil to prevent rust. Store it in a dry place, away from moisture.

What not to do: Never leave the spearhead in a damp environment or a wet sheath. Do not use aggressive chemicals or abrasive cleaners that could damage the blackened finish.
