Hand-forged Leaf Blade Spearhead, Carbon Steel

Description and Use

The spear is one of the oldest and most widespread weapons in human history. Its head, often made from flint, bronze, or iron, was attached to a wooden shaft. It was a versatile weapon that could be used for both thrusting and throwing. In many cultures, including the Viking one, the spear was considered a symbol of social status and power. For example, the Norse god Odin was depicted with his magical spear, Gungnir, which never missed its target.

This spearhead has a leaf-shaped blade that transitions smoothly into a tapered socket. The leaf blade was a popular design for its aerodynamic shape, which made it easier to penetrate a target while leaving a relatively wide and deep wound. The blade is sharp, and its narrow tip allows for a clean and deep thrust. On the tapered socket, which is used to mount it on a wooden shaft, there is a pre-drilled hole. This is for securing the shaft, either with a pin, screw, or rivets. Thanks to the tapered shape of the socket, it is also possible to firmly attach the spearhead to the shaft without a pin or rivet.

As each piece is hand-forged, it may have minor scratches, hammer marks, or other tool marks. These details, however, only enhance its authenticity and give it a unique patina. The forged and blackened surface also has a natural resistance to corrosion. As this is a weapon with a sharp tip and edge, please handle it with care to prevent any injury! While the materials and construction would allow for practical use in stage combat or re-enactment, the manufacturer provides no warranty for this product. Therefore, we sell this spearhead as a decorative item only.

Care and Maintenance

To ensure this beautiful hand-forged spearhead serves you well for a long time, you need to take proper care of it. After each use, or if you touch it, wipe it clean with a dry cloth to remove any sweat or oil from the surface. Then apply a thin layer of oil to protect it from rust. Store the spearhead in a cool and dry place. To preserve the edge and shape of the blade, avoid striking hard surfaces. If you decide to attach the spearhead to a shaft, make sure the connection is firm and stable to prevent it from coming loose.
