Nomad Leather-Covered Horseback Bow – Traditional Power with a Modern Edge

Construction and Unique Features

The bow is designed as a short reflex horse bow, granting it incredible agility and speed. The entire body is wrapped in high-quality leather, which protects the limbs from external elements and dampens vibrations. In the grip area, you will find a soft suede wrap that ensures a firm and comfortable hold even during long training sessions. As this is a handmade product using natural materials, the leather texture may vary slightly from the photographs – ensuring you own a truly one-of-a-kind piece.

Technical Parameters and Specifications

For your convenience, I have compiled a table of the key features of this bow:

Bow Type: Reflex Horse Bow (Nomadic type)
Bow Length: Approx. 48 inches (122 cm)
Draw Weight: 25–50 lbs (selectable in 5 lbs increments)
Maximum Draw Length: 26 inches (66 cm)
Brace Height: 6 inches (approx. 15.2 cm)
Core Material: Fibreglass laminate
Finish: Genuine Leather / Suede

Care Instructions and Safety Tips

To ensure your Nomad serves you well for years to can, I recommend regularly applying high-quality bowstring wax to the string. This prevents fraying and extends its lifespan. You can occasionally treat the leather covering with a leather conditioner to keep it supple. Never dry-fire the bow (shooting without an arrow)! A dry fire can cause irreversible damage to the limbs or snap the string. Also, avoid overdrawing the bow beyond its maximum draw length of 26 inches, as this could compromise the fibreglass core.

Recommended Arrows for This Model

Choosing the right arrow is crucial for effective shooting. For this horse bow, I recommend arrows with natural fletching, as they stabilise better when shot over the hand or from a bow without a rest.

  • Arrow Length: Ideally 30–31 inches (providing a safe margin for your draw).
  • Material: For an authentic feel, go for wood (cedar or spruce). For practice, carbon arrows with a wood-effect finish are an excellent choice.
  • Spine (Stiffness): For a 30–35 lbs bow, look for a 600 spine. For stronger versions (45–50 lbs), choose a 400–500 spine.
  • Point: Standard Field point, weighing 100–125 grains.

Essential Accessories

Enhance your shooting experience with an archery glove or a leather armguard to protect yourself from string slap. Don't forget to pick up some string wax and a suitable target butt that will safely stop your arrows without causing damage to the shafts.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Hungarian archers still host world championships in Horseback Archery? Competitors use bows just like this one to hit targets while in full gallop. With this bow, you are becoming part of a living historical tradition.
