Takedown Recurve Bow Dark Hunter of Wood and Fibreglass

Historical Legacy and the Evolution of the Takedown Bow

Although the principle of recurved limbs was utilised by ancient Asian warriors to extract maximum power from a shorter weapon, the design of this specific model belongs to an entirely different era. The concept of the modern takedown recurve bow, featuring an anatomically shaped pistol grip, was born and popularised in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. The goal of the bowyers at that time was to create a weapon that offered easy transportation and the ability to swap limbs of different draw weights, whilst retaining the benefits of traditional shooting. This product is manufactured precisely in the spirit of those groundbreaking mid-20th-century innovations.

Assembly and Safe Handling

The bow is delivered unstrung and disassembled. Before shooting, the limbs must be firmly bolted to the riser using the provided Allen key (limb wrench). Ensure that the limbs fit perfectly into the limb pockets on the central piece. Next, attach the included Dacron bowstring—we highly recommend using a bow stringer tool to prevent the limbs from twisting. The package also includes an arrow rest, which you can adhere to the shelf of the riser. Always adhere strictly to safety rules when shooting and ensure you have a clear, safe area both in front of and well behind your target. This bow is ideal for target practice on modern foam or classic straw bosses.

Maintenance and Strict Don'ts for Longevity

To ensure this beautiful instrument remains in perfect condition, it must not be handled carelessly. You must absolutely never release the string without an arrow nocked (known as dry firing)! Without an arrow, the immense stored energy has nowhere to transfer; it is absorbed back into the limbs, highly likely causing them to delaminate, splinter, or result in a fatal failure of the weapon. If you know you will not be shooting for a few days, always unstring the bow so the fibreglass and wood can rest and maintain their dynamic tension. Never leave the weapon lying in direct sunlight, in a hot car, or near heat sources.

We warmly recommend purchasing a traditional leather side quiver and a set of durable carbon arrows with natural fletching to complement this model, as their characteristics perfectly reflect the modern traditional archery style of the 20th century.
