In the Middle Ages, leather arm guards formed the absolute basic equipment of the regular infantry, crossbowmen, and wandering mercenaries. Leather was a relatively accessible material, and strong cowhide could reliably deflect a lighter slash or noticeably dampen a blunt impact. Today, you will perfectly utilise these massive leather vambraces as a fully functional and aesthetic accessory for LARP, light stage fencing, cosplay, or fantasy festivals. The bracers are firmly attached to the forearm using three leather straps with metal buckles. For safety reasons, we emphasise that due to the nature of the material, this is not certified armour suitable for full-contact heavy combat with steel weapons (such as buhurt, Battle of the Nations, or hard HEMA fencing). For your maximum comfort, prevention of unpleasant chafing, and even better shock absorption, we highly recommend wearing a padded gambeson, an arming jack, or at least a thicker linen tunic underneath the vambraces.

Proper Care for Your Leather Armour

To ensure the thick natural leather retains its strength, flexibility, and great appearance in the long term, it needs to be maintained regularly. We recommend occasionally treating the surface of the vambraces and the fastening straps themselves with a high-quality leather balsam containing beeswax, which nourishes and waterproofs the hide. Under no circumstances should you wash the guards in a washing machine, do not soak them unnecessarily in water, and never dry them directly near an open fire or on a hot radiator. Drying them too quickly would lead to irreversible hardening and cracking of the material. If your armour gets wet at an outdoor event, let it dry slowly and naturally at normal room temperature.
