Spanish Breastplate by Marto with Castile and León Coat of Arms – 16th Century
Authentic Toledo Craftsmanship
This cuirass is a high-quality decorative reproduction of the armour worn by Spanish officers and foot soldiers during the 16th and 17th centuries. Manufactured in Toledo, Spain—a city famous for its steel and swords since Roman times—it embodies a tradition of excellence.
The base is crafted from 0.8 mm (approx. 21 gauge) steel sheet, polished to a shine. It is beautifully contrasted by brass overlays on the sides and adorned with cast brass decorative elements. The centrepiece is a striking oval medallion displaying the quartered coat of arms: the castles of Castile and the lions of León, further embellished with royal fleurs-de-lis.
Usage and Display
- Interior Decor: The primary function of this piece. It looks majestic when mounted on a wall in a study, living room, or hallway.
- Theatrical Prop: Perfect for stage productions, cosplay, or photoshoots requiring a realistic historical look without the weight of battle-ready armour.
- Collection: A must-have addition for collectors of Spanish heritage items and medieval replicas.
A Glimpse into History
The heraldry featured on the chest celebrates the historic union of the kingdoms of Castile and León in 1230 AD. The castle and the lion are iconic symbols that have represented Spanish strength for centuries. During the 16th century, soldiers wearing armour of this style conquered new worlds and dominated European battlefields. The inclusion of the fleur-de-lis symbolizes royalty and adds a touch of regal elegance to the martial design.

Care Instructions
To keep your breastplate looking pristine, wipe it occasionally with a soft, dry cloth. We recommend applying a light coat of oil (such as WD-40 or mineral oil) to the steel parts to prevent rust caused by humidity. The brass elements can be polished if desired, though many prefer the natural patina that develops over time.
Safety Warning
Please note that this breastplate is made from 0.8 mm thin sheet metal. It is strictly a decorative item! It is not suitable for re-enactment combat, buhurt, full-contact sparring, or any practical protection. The metal will dent or deform under impact and could cause injury if used improperly.
We recommend pairing this breastplate with a decorative Spanish sword or halberd from our collection to create a complete and immersive historical display.
