At the turn of the 12th century, during the dawn of the Gothic era, garments were entirely without pockets. Everyone, from a simple peasant to a valiant warrior, had to carry their daily necessities – coins, flint, or tinder – in bags and pouches suspended from the waist. The use of animal furs was not merely an aesthetic choice; it carried deep symbolism and practical utility. Boar bristle, known for its coarseness and excellent water-repellent properties, protected the contents of the pouch from harsh weather. Furthermore, in medieval symbolism, the wild boar represented tenacity, courage, and battle fury. The shape of the pouch, with its elegant semi-circular cut-out on the flap, allows this animal trophy to stand out beautifully.

The pouch is primarily designed to be worn securely on a belt. Firmly riveted to its back are two massive, decoratively braided leather loops that easily accommodate most historical belts. You will certainly appreciate the thoughtful and period-accurate closure system. Hidden beneath the fur-decorated flap is a leather strap with a hole that slides securely over a sturdy leather peg (stud) located on the body of the pouch. This mechanism is invisible from the outside, preserving the wild look of the pouch, while reliably preventing accidental opening even during vigorous movement in combat.

How to Properly Care for Your Fur Pouch

The combination of smooth leather and genuine fur requires specific, yet simple care. We recommend regularly treating the smooth leather parts of the pouch with a high-quality leather balm or beeswax, which will maintain its suppleness and water resistance. Be very careful not to get the balm or fat into the boar fur! If the fur becomes dusty, simply brush it gently with a dry brush in the direction of hair growth. If the pouch gets wet on your wilderness treks, always let it dry very slowly at normal room temperature. Never dry the leather or the fur near an open fire or on a radiator – this will cause irreversible hardening, cracking of the leather, and hair loss. The product must not be put in a washing machine and must not be cleaned with aggressive chemicals.
