Heavy Grade Leather Archer Vambraces with Decorative Brass Studs

Construction and Practical Use

These vambraces are designed for maximum comfort. They consist of three separate segments firmly joined together with brass rivets. The top edge sloping towards the elbow is stylishly pointed, which not only looks great but also visually elongates the arm, adding dynamism to the armour. The back features a series of eyelets with a lacing cord, allowing you to perfectly adjust the vambraces to the thickness of your forearm, whether worn on bare skin or over the sleeves of a gambeson or tunic.

Historical Context and Fun Facts

Forearm protection, known as a vambrace or bracer, has accompanied mankind since ancient times. For an archer, a quality bracer was an absolute necessity – it protected the inner arm from the painful and often bloody snap of the bowstring after a shot. During the High Middle Ages, leather was often combined with metal or layered to withstand light slashing blows. Interestingly, vambraces were not just for soldiers; they also served as status symbols, where richly decorated pieces showcased the wealth and experience of the wearer.

Caring for Your Leather Vambraces

To ensure the leather serves you for many years and maintains its flexibility, we recommend regular maintenance. After each event, remove dirt with a damp cloth and let them dry at room temperature (never near a direct heat source, as the leather could crack). Occasionally treat them with a leather balsam containing beeswax or lanolin. This will keep the leather supple and resistant to moisture.

Safety Warning

These vambraces are intended for LARP, cosplay, theatre, or as a stylish accessory for historical archery. Although the leather is very thick, please remember that this is not certified protective armour suitable for high-impact combat such as HEMA or Buhurt (Battle of the Nations). Leather cannot fully absorb the energy of a strike from a steel weapon. Never expose the product to open flames and do not use aggressive chemicals for cleaning, as they could damage the finish or the rivets.

To complete your outfit, we recommend pairing these vambraces with a leather belt with a brass buckle or a sturdy gambeson, which will increase your comfort during long-term wear.
