Late Medieval Articulated Plate Leg Armour with Floral Brass Rivets
Construction and Historical Context
This fully articulated leg armour is inspired by the plate armour of the 14th and 15th centuries. It consists of a single-lame cuisse (thigh guard), a prominent poleyn (knee cop) with a characteristic side wing to protect the outside of the knee joint, and two-lame demi-greaves covering the upper shin. The product is handcrafted from mild steel with a thickness of approximately 1.8 mm (15 gauge). The upper edge of the cuisses features a sturdy leather tab with holes for arming points, allowing you to tie the armour to an arming belt or doublet. The back is equipped with four robust leather straps with brass buckles for a secure fit around the leg.
How to Properly Use and Maintain Your Armour
For the armour to fit perfectly and not slide down, it is absolutely essential to tie it securely at the top to your undergarment using arming points. The straps on the back of the thighs and calves are only for wrapping the armour around the limb; they do not carry the weight. Please note that this is not protective armour suitable for heavy full-contact combat, such as buhurt, HMB, or Battle of the Nations. Extreme strikes from polearms could cause material deformation and injury. The armour is ideal for stage combat, LARP, historical reenactment, and cosplay.
Since the armour is made of high-carbon mild steel without a stainless finish, it requires regular care. We advise you to clean the surface of sweat and moisture after each use and treat it with a thin layer of protective oil to prevent rusting.
Recommended Accessories
For comfortable wear and to prevent bruising, we strongly recommend you wear a suitable underlying layer, such as thick padded chausses or an arming doublet, beneath this armour. To attach the leg harness securely, we suggest acquiring strong waxed arming points with metal aglets.
