Historical Context and Knightly Symbolism

The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, better known as the Knights Templar, were among the most powerful and wealthiest military orders in the High Middle Ages. Their typical armament included not only a long sword but also a dagger, which served as an indispensable backup weapon for close-quarters combat. These weapons, often called misericordia (daggers of mercy), were used to pierce the gaps in the armour of a fallen enemy. The guard of our replica, with its elegantly curved quillons, bears a red cross (cross pattée), which was granted to the Templars by the Pope himself as a symbol of martyrdom. The massive disc pommel featuring a religious motif refers to the deep faith of these fearless warriors.

Materials and Detailed Craftsmanship of the Dagger

The spear-point blade of this dagger is carefully crafted from 420 stainless steel, which guarantees its high resistance to unwanted corrosion and provides a mirror polish. The handle is made of hard black plastic, into which an anti-slip diamond pattern is pressed. This very authentically evokes a historical leather wrap bound with wire and ensures a secure grip. The fittings of the guard are precisely cast from a light metal alloy and, in addition to the cross, are decorated with a relief of a castle and a lion. The dagger comes with a custom-shaped black plastic scabbard, which is reinforced at its end (the chape) with a massive ribbed casting made of a light alloy, creating a perfect aesthetic whole.

Strong Warning: This Templar dagger is primarily designed and constructed purely as a decorative collector's item and a theatre or cosplay prop. Due to the use of stainless steel and plastic components, it is under no circumstances intended for historical fencing, contact combat, or martial arts training. Stainless steel is relatively brittle, and hard impacts could lead to a fatal breakage of the blade, which poses a risk of severe injury to yourself and those around you. Always use the weapon responsibly and keep it safely out of the reach of small children.

Dagger Maintenance and Recommended Accessories

Thanks to the application of stainless steel, the dagger is virtually maintenance-free. To maintain its flawless appearance, simply polish the blade and the metal parts of the hilt occasionally with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove fingerprints and dust. The plastic scabbard can be lightly wiped with a damp cloth if it becomes dirty. To create an absolutely perfect medieval costume, we recommend combining this dagger with our leather belt frog, thanks to which you will be able to wear your weapon proudly and comfortably by your side all day long.
