Historical Context: Warriors of Sultan Saladin
Saladin’s armies in the 12th century were respected opponents of the European Crusaders. Unlike the heavily armoured knights in chainmail, Saracen warriors relied on lightness, mobility, and breathability. Leather accessories, often reinforced with studs or lamellar plates, were much more practical in the scorching climate of the Holy Land. The design of these vambraces is inspired by Islamic art, which focused on geometric patterns and ornamentation, such as the diamond motif, rather than figurative depictions.
Care and Safety Instructions
Leather is a natural material that requires proper care. After each use, wipe the bracers with a dry cloth and allow them to air dry (never near a heater). Regularly treat the leather with a quality balsam to keep it supple and prevent cracking. Brass elements can be polished with a metal polishing cloth. Warning: These vambraces are not intended for full-contact combat (Buhurt). They serve as a costume accessory or protection against accidental light hits in LARP. When lacing, be careful not to tighten them too much, as this could restrict blood circulation in your arm.
