Roman Brass Spoon, Ligula
An Authentic Accessory for the Roman Camp
This spoon is crafted from solid brass with a high-polish finish. Its design faithfully replicates archaeological finds of ligula-type spoons, which were especially popular during the Late Roman Empire (approx. 3rd - 5th century AD).
Unlike the other common Roman spoon, the *cochleare* (with a small bowl and pointed handle for eating eggs and snails), the ligula was the universal dining utensil. Its larger, deep bowl and elegant offset "swan-neck" made it ideal for liquid and semi-liquid foods such as porridge (*puls*), stews, sauces (*garum*), or desserts. The handle is decorated with simple rings and tapers gently.
This brass spoon is an essential piece of kit for any Roman legionary or civilian re-enactor. It is also perfectly suited for LARP, themed banquets, or as a unique and stylish accessory in your modern kitchen.

Care Instructions
Brass is a beautiful material, but it requires some care to maintain its shine.
- Hand-wash only: Never wash the spoon in a dishwasher. Harsh detergents and high temperatures will damage the brass.
- Dry immediately: After washing in lukewarm water with a mild soap, dry the spoon immediately with a soft cloth. This will prevent water spots.
- Natural Patina: Brass will naturally oxidise and develop a darker patina over time. This is normal and historically authentic.
- Polishing: If you prefer a bright shine, you can polish the spoon from time to time with a soft cloth and a standard brass polish.
- Storage: Keep the spoon in a dry place.
