Historical Context and Symbolism

Forearm protection has accompanied mankind since time immemorial. While heavy warriors relied on bronze or steel, hunters, archers, and light infantrymen preferred leather. Leather bracers protected the arm from the slap of the bowstring, thorns in dense undergrowth, or minor abrasions in camp. The main motif of these bracers is the triskelion (or triskele), one of the oldest and most significant Celtic symbols. The three interconnected spirals can symbolise the cycle of life (birth, death, rebirth), the unity of earth, sea, and sky, or past, present, and future. In Celtic art, this motif was immensely popular, and it was believed to possess protective powers.

Instructions for Use and Maintenance

The bracers are placed on the forearm so that the pointed end faces the wrist (or according to your preference for maximum comfort). Thread the leather laces through the holes and tighten evenly. We recommend cross-lacing, similar to shoes, which ensures the best stability on the arm.

As this is natural suede, the product requires specific care:

  • Avoid Water: Excessive soaking can cause the leather to stiffen or lose its colour. If the bracers get damp, let them dry naturally at room temperature (never near a radiator).
  • Cleaning: Use a special suede brush or a soft leather eraser to remove dirt.
  • Impregnation: Before first use, you can treat the product with a suede protector spray to increase its resistance to moisture and dirt.

Safety Warning

These bracers are intended primarily as a costume accessory, protection for archery, or light LARP. This is not certified protective armour for full-contact historical fencing (HEMA) or Battle of the Nations style combat. The material, with a thickness of approx. 1.2 mm, will not protect you from strikes by steel weapons. Never attempt to treat the bracers with chemicals not intended for leather, as this could cause irreparable damage.

To perfectly complete your Celtic or fantasy persona, we recommend purchasing a simple cotton tunic in a natural colour and a leather belt with a brass buckle.
