Decorative Rapier, 17th Century, Brass Swept-Hilt
The Embodiment of Renaissance Elegance
This rapier is a replica of weapons typical of the 17th century, an era made famous by The Three Musketeers. It is ideal as a decorative item for your study, living room, or as part of a historical weapon collection. It also serves wonderfully as a costume accessory for theatrical performances, historical festivals, LARP, or cosplay. Its authentic appearance will give your character—be it a nobleman, duellist, or adventurer—the right flair.
The Rapier in History
The rapier evolved in the 16th century and enjoyed its greatest popularity in the 17th century. Unlike heavier medieval swords, it was primarily intended for civilian wear and self-defence, not the battlefield. It became an indispensable part of every gentleman's attire. Its characteristic features are a long, slender blade optimised for thrusting and a complex hilt (a so-called "swept-hilt"), which provided excellent protection for the hand. Rapier fencing became an art and a science, about which numerous fencing manuals were written.

How to Care for Your Rapier
The carbon steel blade is not stainless. To maintain its shine and prevent corrosion, it must be cared for regularly.
- Wipe the blade with a dry cloth after every use (even just touching it).
- Occasionally (or when storing it) apply a thin layer of conservation oil (e.g., WD-40 or a dedicated weapon oil).
- The brass parts (hilt, pommel) can be polished with a brass cleaning agent if they lose their lustre.
- Never use the rapier for cutting, thrusting into hard objects, or for fencing contact. There is a risk of irreversible damage (bending, breaking) to the blade or hilt.
- Do not store the sword in a damp environment.
