Leather Sword Baldric with Ring Buckle, Black
Functionality and Style in One
The main advantage of this baldric is its practicality. Unlike a traditional waist belt, it doesn't restrict movement and won't get tangled under armour or bulky clothing like a gambeson. The leather "frog" is equipped with two sturdy buckled straps that securely wrap around and fix your sword or dagger scabbard in place. This ensures your weapon stays put even during rapid movement, while always being ready at hand to be drawn.
Easy Adjustment and Use
- Wear the Baldric: Sling the strap across your torso, typically over your left shoulder if you wish to carry the sword on your right hip (for a right-handed user).
- Adjust the Length: Thread the loose end of the strap through the ring buckle and secure it to the desired length using the pre-punched holes. The baldric should sit comfortably but firmly.
- Attach the Scabbard: Slide your sword's scabbard into the leather frog. Then, tighten both straps until they grip the scabbard firmly, preventing it from wobbling in the hanger.
Please note: The sword and scabbard shown in the photos are not included with the delivery.
The Baldric – Gear of Adventurers and Soldiers
A baldric (from the French bandoulière, a shoulder belt) is a type of strap worn across the body, historically used to carry a weapon, ammunition, or other equipment. Its popularity grew especially in the 16th and 17th centuries. Landsknechts used it for their Katzbalger swords, musketeers for their rapiers and cartridge boxes, and pirates for their cutlasses and pistols. It allowed a heavy weapon to be carried without burdening the waist and provided freedom of movement, which was crucial in combat. This simple but effective piece of gear thus became a symbol of the free-roaming soldier and adventurer.
