Steel Lamellae for Lamellar Armour, Eurasian Type II, 100 Pcs

Build Your Own Bespoke Armour

This set of 100 precision-made steel scales provides the ideal material for crafting your own lamellar armour. The individual plates allow you to perfectly adapt the armour to your body and needs. Create a cuirass, pauldrons, tassets, or any other piece of armour. The pre-drilled holes, approximately 4 mm in diameter, enable easy lacing with leather cords or a sturdy waxed string, giving you complete freedom in the final construction and appearance.

Please Note: This is a set of lamellae for DIY projects. It is not a finished piece of armour. These scales are not certified protective equipment and are not intended for full-contact combat (such as buhurt). They serve as a costume element for reenactment, LARP, theatre, or cosplay.

Born in the Fire of Steppe Battles

Lamellar armour, composed of dozens or even hundreds of small, overlapping plates, was the dominant form of protection in Eurasia for centuries. Its origins date back deep into antiquity. During the Migration Period and the Early Middle Ages, which is the era of the original find, it was widely used by nomadic steppe tribes like the Sarmatians, Avars, and Alans, as well as by the armies of great empires such as Byzantium. Its popularity stemmed from an excellent combination of mobility, relatively easy production, and the ability to perform simple repairs in the field just by replacing damaged plates.

A Relic from a Crossroads of Cultures

The artifact that inspired these lamellae was found near the city of Kerch in Crimea. In the 5th century, this strategic area was a true melting pot of peoples and cultures, where Goths, Huns, Alans, and the remnants of Greek colonies met. Finds of weapons and armour from this location are therefore a unique testament to the military technologies and mutual influences of these warrior societies.

How to Care for Your Lamellae

The scales are made from carbon steel, which is prone to rust. They are treated with a layer of preservative oil for shipping. For a long life and a perfect appearance, we recommend keeping the lamellae dry. After each use, wipe them with a dry cloth and apply a thin layer of oil, such as Ballistol or WD-40. With this simple care, they will serve you well on many adventures.
