Elaborate Design for Comfort and Protection
The quality of these vambraces lies in the careful selection of materials and thoughtful construction:
- Premium Leather: The outer layer is made from extra-thick, vegetable-tanned full-grain "crunch" leather. This type of leather is renowned for its durability, strength, and natural grain, which is enhanced by transparent dyes.
- Comfortable Lining: The inner side is fully lined with soft and smooth suede leather, which prevents chafing and ensures comfortable wear even during prolonged activity.
- Reinforced Edges: The suede lining is elegantly folded over the edges and securely stitched. This not only increases durability but also creates substantial rims approximately 8.5 mm thick.
- Elbow Protection: The design of the bracers is specially extended and shaped to naturally cup and protect the elbow joint, which is often exposed to painful blows in combat.
- Adjustable Fit: A strong leather cord on the inner side of the forearm allows you to easily adjust the bracers to fit your arm perfectly.
Combat Protection and a Historical Note
These leather vambraces are primarily designed to enhance safety during historical fencing and re-enactment. While mail armour effectively protects against cuts, a leather layer underneath helps to absorb and distribute the energy of blunt impacts, reducing the risk of bruises and fractures. From a historical perspective, it should be noted that extensive archaeological finds of leather bracers from Viking Age Scandinavia are lacking. However, limited evidence for their use is found in 10th-12th century Byzantine and Rus' contexts. For the most authentic historical appearance, it is therefore ideal to wear these protectors concealed beneath the sleeves of a mail shirt.

How to Care for Your Leather Bracers
To ensure your bracers last as long as possible, give them the proper care:
- After each use, wipe off sweat and dirt with a dry cloth and let them air dry at room temperature.
- Never dry them near a heater, in direct sunlight, or by a fire.
- Regularly treat the outer leather with a quality leather conditioner or wax to keep it supple and resilient.
- Store them in a dry, well-ventilated place.
