Round Head Steel Rivets 4x10 mm, Pack of 25
Need to fasten thicker layers of material where shorter rivets just won't do? This pack of steel rivets with a 10 mm shank length is the solution for your most demanding projects. Like their shorter counterparts, these rivets are the unsung heroes of historical armour and sturdy leather goods. They are made from soft mild steel, which is ideal for cold setting – easy to shape, yet it holds fast once the joint is formed. The longer shank makes them perfect for joining multiple layers of leather, attaching padding to armour, or mounting handles to thick wooden shields. This pack of 25 is ideal for specific repairs or smaller projects that require extra length. Further product information ...

For Thicker and More Demanding Joints
Thanks to the extended shank, these rivets are the perfect choice for situations where standard length is insufficient. Their uses are extensive:
- Joining Thick Materials: Ideal for fastening several layers of heavy leather, for example when making lamellar armour or robust belts.
- Attaching Padding: Reliably secures the inner padding (or "lining") to helmets and other pieces of armour.
- Shield Construction: Perfect for mounting a handle and straps through a thick wooden shield board, possibly including an inner leather reinforcement.
- Sturdy Leather Goods: Securing heavy-duty loops, straps, and fittings on thick bags or back-quivers.
How to Set Rivets Correctly (Cold Setting)
Creating a strong riveted joint requires the right technique. Here is a simple guide:
- Prepare the Hole: In the materials to be joined, drill or punch a hole that is only slightly larger than the rivet shank's diameter (approx. 4 mm).
- Insert the Rivet: Push the rivet through the hole. Its factory head must sit flush against the material.
- Support the Head: Place the rivet's factory head on a solid surface, ideally in a riveting tool or a hole in an anvil, to prevent it from deforming during peening.
- Trim the Shank: The rivet shank should protrude on the other side by a length equal to about 1 to 1.5 times its diameter (approx. 4-6 mm). Trim it with bolt cutters or a hacksaw.
- Form the Shop Head: Using a ball-peen hammer, begin to carefully peen the end of the shank. Use circular strikes, working from the edges towards the centre, until you have formed a second, neat dome head.

Care and Maintenance
As the rivets are made of steel, they can be prone to rust. To protect them, store them in a dry place. After handling, you can wipe them with a lightly oiled cloth. Over time, they will develop a natural patina that adds an authentic look to your creations.
