Late Gothic Women's Leather Shoes with Cutouts and Brass Buckle
The Elegance and Taste of the Late Middle Ages
While the common people wore rough and purely functional footwear, the upper social classes in the 15th century could afford decorative elements and finer craftsmanship. These shoes perfectly reflect the fashion trends of the time. The slightly upturned and pointed toe references the fading fashion of poulaines, while the deep side cutouts and decorative perforations allowed the foot to breathe while simultaneously showing off the wearer's expensive and colourful hose. The contrasting black strap with a brass buckle adds interest to the brown leather and ensures that the shoe does not slip off the foot when dancing or walking.

How to Properly Care for Your Leather Shoes
For this beautiful footwear to serve you as long as possible, it requires regular maintenance. Straight from production, the shoes are treated with a nourishing beeswax balm. Regularly rub high-quality leather oil or wax balm into the leather to prevent it from drying out and cracking. The material will soften and become much more resistant to moisture. Bear in mind that the leather will naturally darken slightly after applying the balm. Always allow wet shoes to dry very slowly at standard room temperature after an event. Under no circumstances should you dry them near an open fire, on a radiator, or in direct sunlight. Any scuffs from dancing can be easily hidden with standard tinted shoe polish.
Important Information on Colours and Safe Wear
The basic colours for producing these shoes are black and brown. If you desire a different, unconventional shade, it is achieved by applying a special covering lacquer paint. Please be aware that this coloured layer may crack or flake slightly over time in stressed bending areas. For occasional wear (e.g., a few events a year or for a wedding), this is absolutely fine, but for regular and high stress, we highly recommend naturally dyed leathers.
Keep in mind that the historicising smooth sole can be more slippery on wet grass, cobblestones, or in mud than modern trekking footwear. Exercise increased caution when moving. If you wear orthotic insoles and decide to opt for our custom-made shoe production, it is absolutely essential that you physically post these insoles to us. We will seat them precisely into your new shoes to provide you with maximum comfort all day long.
We highly recommend you purchase a beautiful medieval 15th-century dress and period hose from our range to accompany these elegant shoes, bringing your costume to absolute perfection.
