Hand-and-a-Half Sword "Reymnd" with Scabbard – Class C
Construction and Safety Classification
The sword falls into Classification Class C. This means it is primarily intended as a costume accessory or for non-contact drills. The blade is hand-forged from carbon steel and features a rounded tip and a blunt edge approx. 2.5 mm thick for increased safety. The handle is metal, wrapped in leather for a comfortable grip, and ends with a pommel that is screwed onto the blade tang using a recessed nut. It is precisely this construction method (screwed, not peened tang) that limits the sword's use – the connection could loosen under hard impact.

Historical Context: The Bastard Sword
Swords of this type, often called "bastard swords" or hand-and-a-half swords, dominated the battlefields of the late Middle Ages (approx. 14th–15th century). Their extended grip allowed the warrior to engage the second hand if needed, delivering a more crushing blow, whilst the sword remained light enough to be wielded with one hand. The Reymnd model, with its simple crossguard and wheel pommel, references the functional aesthetics of this rugged era.
Sword Maintenance
Since the blade is made of carbon steel, it requires regular care to prevent rust. Wipe the blade with a dry cloth after every use (or touch with bare hands) and preserve it with oil (e.g., WD-40 or gun oil). You can occasionally treat the leather grip and scabbard with a leather conditioner to prevent cracking. Store the sword in a dry place, ideally removed from the scabbard if the room temperature fluctuates.
Important Warranty Notice
Please note that this product is sold without a warranty for damage caused by fencing. Class C is not designed for contact combat (buhurt, HEMA steel sparring). Claims cover only material defects (e.g., production cracks in the blade), not the loosening of the crossguard, nicks in the edge, or bending of the blade caused by striking other objects.
