Fencing Longsword Embleton de Luxe 15th Century
Historical Context and Craftsmanship
The design of this longsword draws directly from a surviving late medieval original dated to the 2nd half of the 15th century (c. 1450–1500), recovered from Lake Constance (Bodensee). During this dynamic era of the Late Middle Ages, two-handed swordplay reached its zenith. Master fight manuals (fechtbücher) by legendary masters such as Johannes Liechtenauer and Sigmund Ringeck codified fluid cuts, parries, and precise thrusts against armored opponents.
The blade is forged from high-tensile spring steel (ČSN 14260 / ČSN 15260), oil-hardened, and computer-tempered to 48.5 ±2 HRC to deliver maximum flexibility upon thrusting while preventing edge fractures. The hilt is anchored by an elegant fishtail pommel featuring decorative fluting, paired with a straight crossguard reinforced at the center. The wooden core handle is tightly wrapped in genuine leather.
Significance of the Name Embleton
This sword proudly bears the name Embleton in honor of the historic estate and Dunstanburgh Castle near Embleton in Northumberland, Northern England. During the 15th century, this borderland played a vital role in regional conflicts and the Wars of the Roses. Naming this weapon Embleton symbolizes chivalric resilience, strength, and the proud martial heritage of the late medieval North.

Care Instructions and Safety Guidelines
Spring steel is susceptible to corrosion and requires regular care. After every sparring session, wipe moisture and sweat from the blade before applying a thin coat of protective oil (such as Ballistol). Use a fine metal file to smooth out any small edge burrs caused by blade contact. Treat the leather handle wrap with leather conditioner. Leather color and grain texture may vary slightly due to natural hand-finishing. The crossbar is peened/riveted to the tang; over extended use, the rivet joint may loosen slightly and rattle, which is normal wear and does not compromise structural safety.
Safety Warning: Classified as a Class B Historical Fencing Sword. It is engineered for experienced fencers who value agility, flexibility, and controlled technique. Blade breakage warranty covers material defects only. For safety reasons, it is strictly NOT intended for full-contact armored combat (buhurt/Battle of the Nations). Always wear full HEMA protective gear during sparring—including a 1600N fencing mask, a padded fencing jacket (gambeson), and heavy fencing gloves. Usage is strictly at your own risk.
