The Story of the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of the Temple of Solomon

In 1119, twenty years after the Crusader conquest of Jerusalem, Hugues de Payens and eight other knights founded an order pledged to poverty, chastity, and obedience. They took up residence at the site of the former Temple of Solomon, which is why they began to call themselves the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and the Temple of Solomon, known today as the Knights Templar.

Their original mission was to protect pilgrims in the Holy Land. However, thanks to their discipline and courage, they soon became an elite military force.
