Medieval / "Viking" Belt Buckle with Plate (1200–1330) – 2nd Quality - Outlet
Are you a skilled crafter who isn't afraid to pick up a polishing cloth? Or are you looking for a costume accessory that doesn't shine like new but has a rough, authentic, and "used" appearance? This brass belt buckle with an integrated plate is the perfect piece for you. Although dated to the High Middle Ages (1200–1330), its coarser craftsmanship and geometric decor recall older Nordic or Romanesque motifs, which is why it is often referred to as "Viking style." It is an affordable option for those who want to fine-tune the final look of their belt themselves. Further product information ...
Medieval / "Viking" Belt Buckle with Plate (1200–1330) – 2nd Quality
What does "2nd Quality" mean?
We sell this product as 2nd Quality (B-Grade). What does this mean in practice? Structurally, the casting is perfectly sound and fully functional. However, there are optical defects on the surface – oxidation spots, discoloration, small pits, or imperfections from the mold. For some, this is a flaw; for a re-enactor looking for a "battle-worn" look, it is an advantage. If you desire a high shine, most of these imperfections can be easily removed by polishing (see below).
Historical Context and Usage
Typologically, this buckle falls into the period of the 13th to early 14th century. The solid riveting plate ensures that the leather will not stretch at the stress point. It is suitable for:
- Medieval Costumes: Townsfolk, mercenaries, peasants.
- Fantasy and LARP: Dwarves, Northerners, Rangers – the "raw" look fits best here.

How to Mount and Polish
For assembly, you will need 5 brass rivets of appropriate diameter (these are not included). We recommend using leather with a thickness of at least 3–4 mm so the buckle sits firmly on the belt.
Maintenance Tip: If you don't like the raw look, take some metal polishing paste (e.g., Brasso) and a soft cloth. With a little patience, you can polish the raised parts of the relief to a golden shine, while the recesses remain darker, which beautifully highlights the plasticity of the pattern.
Important Notice
This is a semi-finished product intended for finishing or a product with a rustic aesthetic. Complaints regarding the surface defects described above (spots, minor irregularities) will not be accepted, as these are the reason for the reduced price and classification as 2nd Quality.
