Historical originals of single-loop D-shaped buckles featuring fluted or twisted frame decoration date back across an unusually broad era from roughly 1250 to 1650, spanning the High Middle Ages, Gothic, Renaissance, and Thirty Years' War periods. The D-shape was among the most widespread and versatile belt fitting designs in European history. The fluted grooving along the frame served not only a decorative purpose but also increased friction when fastened, preventing the leather strap from slipping. Buckles of this type were used by soldiers, craftsmen, and nobility alike to secure belts, shoulder baldrics, pouches, and plate armour strapping.
This product is crafted as a solid hand-casting made of pure brass, featuring a darker patina within the frame's grooves. The buckle has outer dimensions measuring 45.6 x 39.8 mm (1.80 x 1.57 in) and is designed for leather straps up to 32 mm (1.26 in) wide. Mounting onto a leather strap is straightforward: fold the end of a leather strap up to 32 mm (1.26 in) wide around the straight rear bar of the buckle. At the fold, punch an elongated slot to allow movement for the hinged pin measuring 41 mm (1.61 in) in length. Once the pin is inserted, securely rivet the folded leather together using brass rivets or stitch it thoroughly with strong waxed linen thread.
