Templar Cross Breastplate – Decorative Armor by Marto
The Shine of Toledo Steel
Although the breastplate is made of galvanized iron sheet with a thickness of 0.8 mm, its finish is executed to perfection. A special lacquered patina imitates highly polished stainless steel, making the armor look brand new and parade-ready. The main decorative element is the black etching of the Templar Cross placed over the heart, with a smaller cross at the bottom. The breastplate features an anatomical shape (globose form) with a central ridge, which in real combat served to deflect blows.
Important Note on Usage
It must be emphasized that this breastplate is a strictly decorative item.
- Not intended for combat: The sheet thickness (0.8 mm) and the material used are not built to withstand weapon strikes.
- Not intended for wear: Although it is life-size (corresponding to approx. size M), the inside is not padded, and the attachment system is simplified for hanging or display.
- Package contents: Includes the breastplate only (backplate and tassets are not included).
Historical Context
The Templars, dissolved in 1312, historically wore mostly chainmail supplemented by brigandines or early coats of plates. Solid, anatomically shaped breastplates like this one became widespread in Europe only after 1340. Thus, this product represents a beautiful romantic symbiosis of iconic Templar symbolism and advanced plate armor technology of the late Middle Ages.
