Mid-Calf Leather Boots Duke with Straps and Brass Buckles
Historical Design for Discerning Adventurers
With their unique cut, these mid-calf boots reference the luxurious footwear popular in the Late Middle Ages and Early Renaissance. During this time, similarly decorated and intricately fastened models were worn primarily by the wealthier classes and seasoned warriors. The construction of the shoe relies on a firm tightening across the instep using two straps with brass buckles. The upper part of the boot, the so-called design shaft, is then fixed by threaded leather straps. It is important to note that the two halves of this upper shaft may not close completely upon tightening, and any resulting wedge-shaped gap is intentionally not lined with a leather tongue. This is not a manufacturing defect, but a specific characteristic of this historicising cut that in no way diminishes the functionality of the footwear. Furthermore, you can easily adjust the size of any gap by using thick woollen socks or period leg wraps.

How to Properly Care for Your Boots
To ensure this noble footwear serves you reliably for many seasons, regular maintenance is required. Straight from production, the leather is treated with a nourishing beeswax balm. Regularly rub leather oil or a high-quality wax balm into the leather. The material will thus soften beautifully, become waterproofed against moisture, and acquire an authentic, slightly darker patina. Minor scuffs from battle can be easily masked and colour-matched with standard shoe polish. Always let wet boots dry very slowly at normal room temperature. Under no circumstances should you dry them near the radiant heat of a fire, on a hot radiator, or in direct sunlight, as the leather would irreparably stiffen and crack.
The basic colours for this model are black, dark brown, and light brown (natural). Please be aware that if you select a different, unconventional shade, it is achieved by applying a special covering paint. However, this lacquered layer tends to crack or flake over time in the stressed bending areas of the leather. For occasional festival wear, this finish is sufficient, but for heavy use, we highly recommend opting for the naturally dyed basic shades.
Safety and Custom Tailoring
When wearing historical footwear, remember that a smooth sole behaves differently on wet grass, cobblestones, or in mud than modern trekking rubber. Therefore, exercise increased caution when running or engaging in contact fencing to avoid slipping. If you normally wear orthotic insoles and opt for our custom-made footwear production, it is absolutely essential that you physically post these insoles to us. They will be carefully seated directly into your new boots to ensure perfect comfort.
We highly recommend purchasing period woollen leg wraps and linen hose from our range to accompany these luxurious mid-calf boots, bringing your historical costume to absolute perfection.
