Historical Context and Demanding Molding Technology

While simple leather drawstring bags were commonplace in the Middle Ages, rigid pouches made of molded leather represented a more luxurious and much more durable option. The technology of hot-molded leather (historically known as cuir bouilli) was used to make cases for valuables, armour parts, and flasks. The front part of this pouch is pressed over a special wooden mould using heat and pressure. This creates an exceptionally strong interior space that does not collapse and perfectly protects the contents against impacts. The lower rounded edges are masterfully reinforced and decorated with hand-braided leather lacing. The use of genuine wild animal fur refers to the close connection of medieval people with nature and hunting traditions.

How to Wear and Secure the Pouch

The pouch is primarily designed to be worn on a belt. On its back, you will find a solid leather shield from which two massive loops emerge, joined into one wide channel. This design ensures excellent stability – the pouch does not tip over on the belt and sits firmly at your hip even when running through the forest. The closure features a classic leather strap with a beautifully decorated metal buckle bearing a floral motif. Furthermore, the tip of the strap is protected by a metal strap end (chape), which facilitates threading and extends the lifespan of the fastening.

Care Instructions for Leather and Fur

The combination of smooth molded leather and genuine fur requires a little caution during maintenance. We recommend occasionally treating the smooth leather parts of the pouch body with a high-quality leather balm or beeswax, which will increase their water resistance. However, be very careful not to get the fat into the animal fur! If necessary, the fur only needs to be gently brushed with a dry brush in the direction of hair growth. If you are caught in a downpour on your expedition and the pouch gets wet, always let it dry very slowly at normal room temperature. Never dry the leather or fur near an open fire or on a radiator – this would cause irreversible hardening of the leather and hair loss. Naturally, the product does not belong in a washing machine, and you should avoid chemical cleaners.
