It combines the classic feel of a wooden shaft with the durability of modern materials. Designed to withstand frequent use during recreational shooting, its plastic vanes mean you don't have to worry about fletching damage from moisture or rough handling in the grass. This arrow is supplied as a complete "Ready to Shoot" product, so simply pull it from your quiver, nock it, and send it into the centre of the target. Further product information ...

Wooden Arrow with Target Point and Plastic Vanes – 29"

Intended Use and Application

This arrow is constructed primarily for longbows. Due to its parameters and the use of plastic vanes, it is not particularly suitable for shooting from modern recurve or composite bows, which often require specific shaft properties and natural feathers for clean clearance past the riser. The arrow is fitted with a plastic nock and a steel target point. It is rated for bows with a draw weight of up to 45 lbs. If you use a heavier bow, there is a risk of the arrow breaking upon release, which can be dangerous.

History and Materials

While in the Middle Ages you would have found goose or turkey feathers glued with hide glue and bound with linen thread on an arrow, this model uses modern polymer. This is a practical concession to modern times. Historical feather fletchings are authentic but susceptible to wet weather and wear. The use of plastic vanes on a wooden shaft is a compromise that allows you to experience the ballistics and weight of wood (which feels completely different from light carbon), but with a durability you will appreciate during normal practice on the field or range.

Care and Safety Principles

Wood is a natural, "living" material. To ensure your arrows serve you long and shooting remains safe, pay attention to the following points:

  • Pre-shot Inspection: Visually inspect and slightly flex (flex test) the arrow before every shot. If you hear creaking or see a crack in the shaft, discard and break the arrow immediately so no one uses it by mistake. Shooting with a damaged wooden arrow can lead to nasty hand injuries!
  • Storage: Store arrows in a dry place, ideally horizontally or in a rack, so the shafts do not warp under their own weight. Moisture can cause the wood to deform.
  • Suitable Target Butt: Shoot exclusively into quality target butts designed for archery (straw, foam, compressed board). Shooting into trees, wooden boards, walls, or stones will lead to the immediate destruction of the arrow. Warranty claims do not cover damage caused in this way.

I recommend purchasing a spacious back or hip quiver and an armguard for forearm protection to go with these arrows.
