This set consists of a long-sleeved chainmail shirt (hauberk) reaching approximately to mid-thigh and a separate chainmail coif protecting the head, neck, and shoulders. The rings are made of stainless steel wire with a thickness of 1.6 mm, ensuring higher corrosion resistance than standard mild steel. The weave style is the classic European "4-in-1". The rings are chemically blackened, giving the armour a unique look.
It is important to note the construction: the rings are butted (round rings, just closed), not riveted. This means it is an affordable option designed primarily for:
- LARP and Cosplay: Visually perfect, durable enough for movement and light skirmishes.
- Theatre and Film: Black reflects less light in spotlights and looks dramatic.
- Costume Events: Renaissance fairs, parades.
Historical Context: Why Black?
Chainmail was the king of battlefields for millennia. Historically, blackening armour was done either by painting or by oil-blackening (oxidation), primarily as rust protection in field conditions where there was no time for polishing. Black armour was often associated with mercenaries or soldiers who didn't have servants to maintain their gear.

Important Sizing and Care Advice
Sizing: The shirt's maximum chest circumference is 115 cm. Remember that under chainmail, you must wear a gambeson (padded jacket) to prevent chafing and absorb impact. If your chest measures 110 cm and you put on a thick gambeson, you will not fit into this shirt. We recommend this model for persons with a natural chest measurement of up to approx. 100–105 cm to leave room for padding.
Maintenance: Although the wire is stainless, the black finish may wear off over time, especially in high-friction areas like the armpits. Store the armour in a dry place. Do not use aggressive cleaners that could damage the blackening.
Safety Warning
Since the rings are butted (not riveted), they tend to open up under heavy impact. This set is NOT intended for full-contact combat (Buhurt, HMB) or heavy fencing with steel weapons.
