John Lee Golden Flower Tanto | Folded Steel | Sakura Motif

Beauty Hidden in Damascene Steel

This is not an ordinary replica for the shelf, although it would look magnificent there. The blade is hand-forged from 1045 carbon steel and subsequently folded 12 times. This process creates over 8,000 layers, drawing a beautiful, organic texture (damascus pattern) on the blade's surface. The blade is sharpened to a razor edge, features traditional Shinogi-Zukuri geometry, and is lightened by a groove (Bo-Hi), which produces a characteristic sound when cutting.

Traditional Materials and Construction

The construction of this tanto fully respects historical models. The handle (Tsuka) is made of wood and covered with genuine ray skin (Same), ensuring the weapon does not slip in your hand. The wrapping (Tsuka-Ito) is black cotton in the classic Hineri-Maki style. Beneath the wrap lie decorative ornaments (Menuki), also featuring floral motifs. The guard (Tsuba), collar (Fuchi), and pommel (Kashira) are made of metal and richly decorated with golden Sakura blossoms, contrasting beautifully with the dark background. The scabbard (Saya) is wooden, lacquered in a high-gloss Kuroro style, giving the weapon a luxurious appearance.

Practical Use and History

The tanto was an integral part of a samurai's equipment. While the katana served for combat in open fields, the tanto was worn constantly, even indoors, as a weapon of last resort or for close-quarters combat. * Warning, sharp weapon: This tanto is fully functional and very sharp. It is suitable for practicing forms (kata) or for cutting tests on soft targets (tatami omote). Please exercise maximum caution when handling. * Care: Carbon steel requires maintenance. Do not touch the blade with bare hands (sweat causes corrosion). Clean and preserve it after each use with sword oil (e.g., clove oil) and Uchiko powder. * Safety: The knife is delivered in a protective cloth bag and an attractive collector's box. Always keep it out of reach of children.

Important Note: Although the blade is functional, it is not an indestructible tool. Striking hard objects (wood, bone, metal) can irreparably damage the blade. This tanto requires respect for the material.
