Tanto: The Last Line of Defence

While a samurai had to surrender his katana upon entering a house, the tanto (dagger) often remained at his belt. It was a weapon for close-quarters combat, self-defence, and in extreme cases, for ritual suicide (seppuku). By owning this knife, you acquire not only a functional tool but also a piece of this fascinating history. The motif of golden Sakura blossoms on the guard reminds us of the transience of life and the beauty of the moment – a philosophy followed by ancient warriors.

Functionality and Craftsmanship

This tanto is not just a decoration; it is fully functional and made without the use of plastics:

• Blade: Hand-forged from 1045 carbon steel and folded 12 times, creating over 8000 layers and a beautiful surface structure (Hada). The blade is sharp and features a groove (Bo-Hi) to reduce weight and create an audible effect when cutting.
• Fittings: The handle is covered with real ray skin (Same) and wrapped in black cotton in the Hineri-Maki style. The guard (Tsuba), collar (Fuchi), and pommel (Kashira) are decorated with the Sakura motif.
• Scabbard (Saya): Wooden, finished with black glossy lacquer in the Kuroro style.

Knife Care

Since the blade is made of carbon steel, it is not stainless. To maintain its shine and sharpness:

• Regularly treat it with sword oil (e.g., Choji oil), especially after every touch or use.
• Store it in a dry place.
• Avoid contact between the blade and aggressive human sweat.

This is a sharp weapon. Always exercise extreme caution when handling it. The tanto is not intended for throwing or prying. Striking hard objects (wood, bone) would irreparably damage the fine edge. Sales are restricted to persons over 18 years of age.
