The design of this scabbard is based on historical sources from the early 14th century, a time when the use of more sophisticated suspension systems was fully developing. The sword is attached to the belt using an asymmetrical two-point suspension, which allows the weapon to hang naturally at an ideal angle on the hip. This provided the warrior not only with comfort during long marches but, above all, the ability to draw the sword at lightning speed in case of sudden danger. Today, you will appreciate this system in historical reconstructions, where it will add to your authenticity, or when safely transporting your practice sword to fencing training.
Leather Scabbard Care and Safety Principles
To ensure this beautiful piece serves you well for many years, it requires regular care. Natural cowhide must be treated at least twice a year with a high-quality leather balm containing beeswax. This prevents it from drying out and cracking. If you get caught in the rain on your adventure and the scabbard gets wet, always dry it slowly at room temperature. Strictly avoid drying it on a radiator, with a hair dryer, or near an open fire – the leather would irreversibly harden and crack. Never insert a wet or un-oiled sword into the scabbard to prevent blade corrosion and internal damage to the leather. If you are using a weapon with a sharp blade, be extremely cautious when sheathing it so as not to cut through the material and injure yourself.
