Broad Leather Templar Sword Belt with Brass Buckle
Historical Context and Proper Use
Belts with firmly integrated sword frogs were immensely popular among knightly orders during the High Middle Ages, especially during the Crusades in the 12th and 13th centuries. They ensured the weapon was held firmly close to the body, which was crucial for both horseback riding and hand-to-hand combat. The leather loop on this belt is designed to accommodate a standard scabbard of a one-handed or bastard sword. Due to its conical shape (tapering towards the tip), the scabbard naturally wedges itself within the loop and stays securely in place.
Fastening is classic and very easy. You thread the long end of the strap through the brass buckle, secure it with the prong, and to achieve a perfect period look, you tie the so-called medieval knot. You loop the free end underneath the fastened belt from the bottom upwards and let it hang casually over the belt towards the ground. This visually elongates your figure and further secures the fastening.

Leather Care and Safety Instructions
Leather is a durable natural material that, when treated well, rewards you with a long lifespan. To maintain its flexibility, we recommend occasionally treating the belt with a high-quality leather balm containing beeswax. If you get soaked at a historical event, let the belt dry slowly at normal room temperature. Never dry it near an open flame, on a hot radiator, or in harsh summer sunlight. The intense heat would cause the leather to harden and irreversibly crack.
For safety reasons, remember one fundamental rule: always insert the sword into the leather suspension housed within a solid scabbard! Inserting a bare, sharp blade directly into the leather loop is highly dangerous. You risk not only immediately slicing through and destroying the suspension but, above all, seriously injuring your leg.
